We all want to live a nice, clean community where we can enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. As a property owner in the City of Kenora, you must maintain the buildings to certain standards and keep your yard clean. The standards are in line with the Ontario Building Code, the Ontario Fire Code, and the City of Kenora's Official Plan.
Make a complaint
Should you wish to file a complaint regarding the condition of property or building, please contact By-law Enforcement at 807-467-2166.
You must provide your name, address and contact number and a description when filing the complaint. All complaints are kept confidential.
Property owners' responsibilities
If you own property in the City of Kenora, you are responsible to ensure all buildings are structurally sound and fit for occupancy. Examples of areas to look at:
- debris and garbage
- exterior and interior walls
- heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
- plumbing and drainage
- roof and roof structures
- toilet and washroom facilities
- vacant buildings
Yards must be kept free of waste, overgrown vegetation and may not be used for the storage of more than one used motor vehicle. Examples of areas to look at:
- debris and garbage
- grass, weeds, hedges and bushes
- drainage, ponding of water
- inoperative vehicles and machinery
- storage of materials
- storage of boats, recreational vehicles, trailers
- unsafe containers, such as freezers or refrigerators
