The Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) works to identify, prevent and remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion throughout the City. Their goal is to improve the quality of life for all citizens by identifying and mitigating physical, technological, communication, and attitudinal barriers. The AAC refers accessibility standards such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), as well as the City's
accessibility plans and policies to make Kenora more accessible for all.

The Committee of Adjustment (COA), formerly the Kenora Planning Advisory Committee (PAC), plays a crucial role in supporting planning and development within the City of Kenora, by ensuring proposals are in line with local panning goals and community interests. The COA has the authority to make decisions on applications made under the Planning Act for land division by consent and to grant minor variances and permission to existing zoning by-laws. The COA also sits as the Property Standards Appeal Committee.

The Community Safety and Well-Being Plan Implementation Committee (CSWBP-IC) leads and provides support to implement the priorities of Kenora's Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Plan. This new committee continues the efforts of the Crime Prevention and Community Well-Being (CPCWB) Advisory Committee, which was responsible for developing Kenora's Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.

The CSWBP-IC will carry out and keep track of Kenora's Community Safety and Well-Being Plan. Their goal is to make sure the CSWB Plan’s goals and actions become real projects that improve public safety, reduce crime, and enhance the well-being of the community.

Council enters into the written contract with the Kenora OPP Detachment Board and is responsible for the financial commitment of our policing costs. The primary role of the OPP Detachment Board is to establish, after consultation with the Detachment Commander, overall objectives and priorities for the provision of police services within the City.

The Detachment Commander is responsible for administering the police service and overseeing its operation in accordance with the objectives and priorities established by the Board. Operational matters fall outside the Board's jurisdiction from general management to complaints regarding policing.

The Kenora Public Library Board governs the Kenora Public Library, creates policy and ensures financial accountability. Through an understanding of the community and a strong relationship with the City Council, the Board advocates for the Library as a whole. It ensures that it has clear goals and objectives for meeting community needs.

The Property Standards Appeal Committee is responsible for hearing appeals from property owners who have received an order for violating the Property Standards Bylaw. The Committee’s role is to ensure that properties meet the standards outlined in the City bylaws (e.g. buildings are safe and in good condition, yards are kept free from garbage, excessive storage, overgrown grass/weeds, and standing water) and the Ontario Building Code. Learn more about the property standards and complaint process.

The Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) supports the implementation the City’s adopted 10 year Sustainability Action Plan for the City of Kenora. The plan identifies areas of action to improve the long-term
economic, social, and / or environmental well-being of the community and its partners to address some of the local challenges related to environmental responsibilities and concern.
