Community Safety and Well-Being Plan Implementation Committee

The Community Safety and Well-Being Plan Implementation Committee CSWBP-IC leads and provides support to City Council on community safety and well-being in Kenora. This new committee continues the efforts of the Crime Prevention and Community Well-Being (CPCWB) Advisory Committee, which was responsible for developing Kenora's Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.

The CSWBP-IC will carry out and keep track of Kenora's Community Safety and Well-Being Plan. Their goal is to make sure the Plan’s goals and actions become real projects that improve public safety, reduce crime, and enhance the well-being of the community.

Meeting schedule

The Committee meets each month, unless otherwise posted. The next meeting is:

  • Monday, September 15, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Training Room at the Operations Building, 60 Fourteenth Street North. The agenda will be posted before the meeting date.

Meeting takeaways

During each meeting, the Committee highlights three key takeaways. At the meeting on April 25, the Committee discussed the following:

  • Discussed and gave feedback on logo concepts for a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan logo.
  • New terms of reference for the committee were adopted by City Council on April 15. The committee is now known as the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan Implementation Committee. Apply online today.
  • Introduction of a tracking dashboard for the committee that will track progress on CSWB Plan actions. Will include a public component that shows up-to-date progress on priority actions.

Committee initiatives

Youth of Kenora, ages 12 to 25, were invited to participate in the Youth Photo Contest: My Community, My Lens. We received many photos about what youth love most about living in Kenora were submitted and some will be featured as part of the Community Safety and Well-being Plan Report and in future publications.

View the video presentation on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) by Steve Woolrich. He is an expert CPTED practitioner who delivered the presentation to the Crime Prevention and Community Well-Being Advisory Committee in February 2024. Steve was in Kenora for a 3-month residency project to evaluate the community and identify opportunities for enhancing safety and reducing crime. The presentation was a valuable resource in developing the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan
