AMO, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, has developed election resources to support leaders in the 2026 Municipal Election. First time candidates and elected official considering re-running will benefit from workshops and learning opportunities during their election journey.

Leadership campaign 

AMO has launched its province-wide campaign, When You Believe, They Believe, to showcase the everyday leadership of Ontarians and how it can translate into municipal office.

Fostering civility handguide

AMO's Fostering Civility at the Council Table Handguide provides principles, tips, and tools for managing conflict, being an active bystander, adopting civility pledges, and how to build effective working relationships with your council colleagues. This is one of seven guides found within AMO’s Leading with Respect Handguides, which all provide practical tools to help councils and staff manage conflict and foster a culture of civility.

Running for municipal council guide

Lead Where You Live is AMO’s comprehensive guide for anyone considering running in the 2026 municipal election. This resource walks you through what municipal councils do, what it means to serve your community, and the steps involved in launching a successful campaign. Whether you’re exploring the idea or preparing to file your nomination, this guide provides practical information, tools, and insights to support your journey.

AMO education workshops

If you are an urban Indigenous person interested in running for municipal council in October 2026, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is offering a series of workshops for you. These sessions will provide insights and strategies to build your understanding and confidence around how to become a candidate and running a campaign.

Dates: Thursday, April 9, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Wednesday, May 6,  6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, June 3, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

If you are seeking re-election or a first-time aspiring candidate, this workshop series is for your. This workshop series is being offered for no charge in two streams:

Stream 1: For elected officials at the municipal level across Ontario who are considering re-election in 2026 and preparing their path forward.
