The City of Kenora is excited to announce the completion of the winter banner community art project. Crews were on site in the Harbourtown Centre this week installing winter-themed banners that will be on display throughout the holiday season and into the new year.

In August 2023, in partnership with Harbourtown BIZ, the City launched an art project to invite youth aged 18 years and under to participate in designing winter-themed banners to decorate the street poles in the Harbourtown Centre. Participants used a digital template scaled to a life-sized banner to create their design which were produced by Wake Marketing. The banners are installed on street poles in the Harbourtown Centre along the Greenbelt, Main Street South and Second Street South.

The City of Kenora received over 300 submissions by youth artists. Designs were sorted by age group and a committee worked to select 48 banners based on creativity, uniqueness and originality relating to the winter theme. Submissions depicted winter activities, sports, holiday memories, and outdoor scenes.

“We are extremely proud of the volume of submissions to this project as it demonstrates the excitement our youth has for our community and we thank each member of the community who submitted a design. The banners are a colourful addition to the festive decorations in Kenora and are being installed just in time for the holiday season. I encourage everyone to view each banner this winter and appreciate the creativity and talent of the youth artists in our community,” says Mayor Andrew Poirier.

Congratulations to the following participants:
