A bag tag is required on garbage bags at curbside pickup or garbage bags brought to the Transfer Station in the City of Kenora.

  • Sunset Strip Husky, 1401 Highway 17 East
  • Tilley's Pharmasave, 201 Main Street South
  • Wilson's Business Solutions, 212 2nd Street South

Fees

$2.60 each or $26.00 for a sheet of 10.

Some locations may only sell in sheets of 10. 

Proper use

  1. Place around the neck of the garbage bag with the two ends of the bag tag attached to each other
  2. In cold weather, it is okay to stick the bag tag to side of the bag
  3. Only full tags are accepted. Garbage bags with tags that have been cut in half will be left behind.

Bag restrictions

  • Under 11.36 kilograms or 25 pounds
  • Smaller than 46 litres or approximately 26 inches by 36 inches
  • Large orange bags, clear bags, or leaf and yard bags will not be accepted as garbage bags

The bag tag price increased on January 1, 2025.

What is the new price of the City of Kenora bag tag?

The cost of a single bag tag is $2.60.

Will the old bag tags still be valid after January 1, 2025?

Yes, all bag tags are valid despite the price you paid for them. The bag tag design will not change, only the purchase price

Do I need a supplementary tag of 10¢ if I use an old tag?

No, this is not necessary. City of Kenora Bag tags purchased before January 1, 2025 are valid.

Will I have to show ID to purchase City of Kenora bag tags?

No, ID is not required. Anyone can purchase City of Kenora bag tags.

Is there an expiry date on the old bag tags?

No, if you purchased City of Kenora bag tags before January 1, 2025, you can still use them on your garbage bags.

Can I still buy sheets of ten tags?

Yes, you can purchase full sheets of ten bag tags for $26.00.

Where can I purchase City of Kenora bag tags?

You can buy City of Kenora bag tags at City Hall, Transfer Station, online, or at some local retailers including Canada Safeway, Keewatin Place, Kenora Public Library, Rabbit Lake General Store, Shoppers Drug Mart, Sunset Strip Husky, Tilley's Pharmasave, Wilson's Business Solutions, and Johnson's Pharmacy.

Is there a weight restriction for the bag tag?

Garbage bags must not weigh more than 11.36 kilograms or 25 pounds. 

How many garbage bags can I put out at the curbside?

You are permitted to put up to 10 garbage bags at the curbside. Each bag must have a City of Kenora bag tag around the neck of the bag.

What is the money collected from the sale of bag tags used for?

The revenue from the sale of bag tags offset the cost of providing offset the cost of providing Solid Waste Disposal services and maintaining the City of Kenora Solid Waste Management System.
