Get involved in your community and join a committee or board. Learn about the different committees and boards that help govern the City of Kenora and advise Mayor and Council on a variety of issues.

Join a committee

We accept committee applications at the beginning of each council term following a municipal election, or when there is a vacancy before the end of the term. If you are interested in joining, please submit the online Committee Application.

You can also complete the Committee Application and submit it by email to the Deputy Clerk or drop it off at City Hall, 1 Main St. S. in Kenora.

Eligibility

In order to serve on a committee or board, you must meet the minimum eligibility requirements:

  • be at least 18 years of age or older
  • be eligible to vote in the City of Kenora
  • live in the City of Kenora
  • have Canadian citizenship

Application details

Please include the following information on your application:

  • name
  • address
  • contact information
  • occupation
  • educational background
  • relevant occupational background
  • description of why you feel the committee/board is important to the City
  • description of what you will bring to the committee/board
  • whether or not you've previously served on a committee or board

Our committees and boards

Explore the committees and boards that help advise Council on a variety of important issues.

Accessibility Advisory Committee

The Accessibility Advisory Committee works to identify and remove barriers to accessibility throughout the City of Kenora. This committee advises Council on all matters related to accessibility. The committee consists of 10 members including two councillors. Meet the current members:

Crime prevention and community well-being committee

The Crime Prevention and Community Well-Being Advisory Committee will provide leadership to implementation and performance of the City of Kenora Community Safety and Well-Being Plan. It will serve as a resource, information gathering and advisory body to Council on matters relating to crime prevention and community well-being.

Members

The committee consists of 11 members. Meet the current members:

  • Councillor Barbara Manson (alternate)

  • Jeff Duggan, Police Services Board/OPP Detachment Commander

  • Danica Farion, City Staff Resource

District of Kenora Home for the Aged Management Board

The District of Kenora Home for the Aged Management Board oversees the operations and management of the District of Kenora Homes for the Aged, which includes three long-term care facilities:

  • Pinecrest - Kenora
  • Princess Court - Dryden
  • Northwood Lodge – Red Lake

Heritage Kenora

Heritage Kenora Committee works closely with the Planning Advisory Committee to help preserve historic buildings and landscapes within the City of Kenora. Learn more about the actions, members and mandate of the committee.

Planning Advisory Committee

The Planning Advisory Committee reviews planning and development applications for the City of Kenora. Learn more about the membership, roles and responsibilities for this committee.

Police Service Board

The Police Service Board oversees and advises on policing for the City of Kenora. Learn more about our emergency services.

Public Library Board

The Kenora Public Library Board oversees the operations of the Kenora Public Library to ensure that we are providing resources, services and programs that meet the needs of our community.

Property Standards Appeal Committee

The Property Standards Appeal Committee reviews and investigates property standards complaints in Kenora. Learn more about the property standards and complaint process.

Sustainability Advisory Committee

The Sustainability Advisory Committee will support the development and implementation of a Sustainability Action Plan for the City of Kenora. The plan will identify actions to improve the long-term economic, social, and / or environmental well-being of the community and its partners while also addressing some of the local challenges related to climate change. 

Synergy North Board

The Synergy North Board of Directors provides support to the public utility organization which provides electricity service and infrastructure to customers living in Thunder Bay and Kenora.

The Muse Board

The Muse Board oversees the maintenance and operation of the Lake of the Woods Museum and the Douglas Family Art Centre. View the Museum Board's Terms of Reference and Amendment for more on the responsibilities of the board.
