The City of Kenora is pleased to launch its new website designed specifically for the 2022 Municipal and School Board elections. The elections website kenoravotes.ca brings together all the important information for candidates and voters.

“We are happy to launch kenoravotes.ca to guide candidates and voters through the election process. Municipal decisions impact our everyday lives so it’s important that voters can find the facts they need to make informed choices and for those who want to serve public office know how to get involved.” states Heather Pihulak, City Clerk/Returning Officer.

The elections website provides specific information about the election for both those interested in running for office and eligible voters, including:

  • Filing a Nomination;
  • Registering to Vote;
  • Candidate profiles, and
  • Frequently Asked Questions.

Eligible voters are encouraged to make sure they are on the Municipal and School Board Elections voters’ list by visiting VoterLookup.ca. This is a separate voters’ list than the one that is currently being compiled for the Provincial election this June.

The candidate nomination period opens on May 2, 2022. Interested candidates are encourage to make an appointment to file nomination paperwork with Heather Pihulak, Returning Officer, at 807-467-2295 or to ask any questions you may have if you are considering running for office.

The City of Kenora is hosting two virtual information workshops on May 3 and 11 with guest speaker Fred Dean who is a former City Solicitor and governance expert. He will provide guidance on topics including roles and responsibilities of council and staff, the public's role, and the difference between governance and administration. Potential candidates, spouses or partners and anyone who is interested in learning more about local government are invited to attend. The workshop is free to everyone. Register for one of the workshops with Heather Pihulak at 807-467-2295.

The Municipal and School Board Elections is Monday, October 24, 2022. Electors will use internet and telephone methods in the 2022 Municipal and School Board Elections to elect:

  • one Mayor for the City of Kenora;
  • six members of City of Kenora Council;
  • three trustees for the Keewatin Patricia District School Board;
  • five trustees for the Kenora Catholic District School Board;
  • one French Language Separate Trustee - Conseil Scolaire de Catholique des Aurores Boreales;
  • one French Language Public Trustee - Conseil Scolaire de District du Grand Nord de L'Ontario.

In the coming months, the elections website will be the primary source to keep candidates and voters informed of the election and voting process.
