The City is pleased to officially reopen McLeod Park with a ribbon cutting celebration.
The redevelopment project began August 2022, and the final pieces were completed last week. The upgrades created a colourful, wood-themed park where families and friends can gather and enjoy a view of the lake. McLeod Park is home to the James McMillan Tugboat and features a new playground and picnic area. The project expands the City’s recreational facilities creating a lively Harbourfront accessible to all.
Everyone is encouraged to visit McLeod Park and observe what has been added. The Park, including washrooms and parking area, is open daily. Please visit our Parks page for full information.
The renovation of McLeod Park is a component of the 2019 Harbourfront Business Development Plan which outlines the redevelopment of the waterfront area identified as the south parking lot fronting Bernier Drive to Husky the Muskie on Lakeview Drive. The plan is designed to be implemented in phases and McLeod Park is the second zone to undergo rehabilitation with the refurbishment of Husky the Muskie completed in 2022.
The City of Kenora would like to thank KGS Group, HTFC Planning and Design and Sierra Construction for delivering this project.
The McLeod Park project is funded by the Government of Canada Tourism Relief Fund, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT). The MAT is a visitor tax that is utilized to support tourism and economic development projects in the City of Kenora.
