Dog Licences

You are required to purchase a dog licence if you own a dog in the City of Kenora. All dogs residing in the City of Kenora must be registered annually. By ensuring your furry friend is wearing the City-issued tag, you are fulfilling the By-law requirement and being a responsible pet owner.

Purchase a dog licence

Complete the Dog Licence online application to purchase an annual City of Kenora dog tag. Or buy in-person at City Hall

You must renew the annual dog licence by March 31 of every calendar year or within seven days of becoming a dog owner.

Fees

View the fees for annual dog licences. Applicable taxes are extra.

  • For a dog of either sex which has been spayed or neutered:  $40.00
  • For a dog of either sex which is under 6 months old: $30.00
  • For a dog of either sex which is altered, with a microchip or tattoo: $30.00
  • For a dog of either sex which has not been spayed or neutered (unaltered) $65.00
  • For replacement of lost or destroyed tag $10.00

Requirements for reduced rate

You must provide a copy of the spay/neuter certificate and tattoo or chip number paperwork. Without the proper documentation, you pay the full fee.

The benefit of a dog tag

The licence number registration will ensure a quick and safe return of an escaped dog.

Free ride home

If a dog is picked up by a By-law Enforcement Officer and is wearing a valid City of Kenora dog tag, every effort will be made to return the dog home at no cost. If the officer is unable to return the dog and the owner is not home, a notification will be left and the dog will be transported to the pound. Pound fees apply to all impounded animals, and the free ride home incentive does not apply to repeat occurrences.
