Mental health support
Lake of the Woods District Hospital
Lake of the Woods District Hospital is a fully accredited hospital under the national standards of the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation. It is the Northwestern Ontario's largest hospital outside of Thunder Bay, serving approximately 30,000 people each year from the City of Kenora, as well as a large surrounding area, including several Indigenous communities.
The Hospital's core programs include:
- emergency and ambulatory care
- mental health
- maternal and child health
- acute care services, including general medicine, intensive care, and surgical services.
- dialysis
- chemotherapy
- diagnostic imaging, including mammography and ultrasound
- addiction counselling and detoxification
- sexual assault services
- physiotherapy and rehabilitation services
- ambulance (land and dedicated air)
- palliative care
- various education programs
The Lake of the Woods District Hospital has worked in partnership with Kenora Chiefs Advisory, the Ministry of Health, and Ontario Health to plan for a new hospital with a health care system based on traditional and mainstream medicines.
The All Nations Hospital Project has been approved to move to Phase 2 for detailed design.
The Steering Committee has three priorities:
- patient mobility
- health care professional recruitment and retention
- long-term planning for health care service delivery
