Recycling and Garbage

The City of Kenora is committed to providing you with the most efficient and cost effective transfer site and collection system for garbage and recycling.

Collection schedule

On a weekly basis, we collect recycle and garbage at the curbside. Garbage bags must have a City of Kenora bag tag attached and recycle items must be placed in suitable container for pick up.

Please use a blanket to cover your garbage bags or place bags in a container to stop animals from getting into your garbage.

There is no curbside collection on statutory holidays.

Getting ready to recycle checklist

  • Rince and flatten
  • No plastic bags, even to bundle items
  • No wet paper products
  • Check that all items in recycle bin are recyclable
  • Breakdown cardboard to 1 meter by 1 meter squares or smaller
  • Have your recycle bin out to the curb by 8 a.m. on collection day

Why your garbage and recycle were not picked up

  • Your items were not at the curbside by 8:00 a.m. on your assigned pick up day.
  • Garbage bags weighed more than 11.34 kilograms or 25 pounds. Bags heavier than this are left.
  • Animals ripped your bags apart. The drivers do not pick up destroyed bags and garbage or recycling in your yard.
  • Your recycle bin contained wet paper products.
  • Your recycle contained contaminated items. Garbage or dirty, greasy containers will not be picked up.
  • There was no bag tag or half of a bag tag on your garbage bag. Everyone has to pay the same user fee for pick-up.
  • You put non-recyclable items such as garbage, glass, or plastic bags in your recycle bin. These items pollute the co-mingle (mixed items) recycle with non-recyclables.
  • Your recycle items were in a plastic bag.
  • Your bins were too big or broken.
  • Your recycle contained cardboard that is too large. Please break down cardboard to 1 meter by 1 meter squares or smaller.
