Kenora Fire and Emergency Service conducts fire safety inspections of properties in the City of Kenora.

Booking an inspection

To request a fire inspection or ask questions about inspections, please call Fire Station One at 807-467-2090 or visit us at 100 Fourteenth Street North, Kenora.

When we conduct inspections

Many inspections are scheduled on a regular basis and some are requested because of potential hazards.

  • When we receive complaints of potential hazards – blocked exits, fire extinguishers, combustible materials.
  • During scheduled inspections on apartments and assemble occupancies.
  • When a lawyer makes an inquiry (usually on a transfer of land).
  • When land is sold, such as:
    • sale of apartment buildings
    • sale of residential buildings with basement apartments
    • Sale of large, multi-use buildings
  • Special use facilities requires annual inspection, such as:
    • long term care homes and care homes
    • daycare facilities, including home daycares
  • Special use facilities require fire drills twice per year, such as:
    • Hospitals
    • nursing homes
    • facilities helping those living with disabilities
    • schools
  • When approving regulated Fire Safety Plans

Ontario Fire Code

We can help you to make sure your property meets the standards of the Ontario Fire Code (OFC). The OFC enhances the safety of structures and buildings by establishing safety standards for properties, systems, buildings and lands. It is a provincial regulation that we use to ensure businesses and residences are operated safely.

Ontario Fire Protection and Prevention Act

The Ontario Fire Protection and Prevention Act (FPPA) enables municipalities to provide all Ontarians with the best possible protection from fire. The OFC is a regulation under the FPPA. Our fire department follows and enforces all the FPPA's rules and regulations.
