Develop swimming proficiency, lifesaving skills, and personal fitness. Candidates refine their stroke mechanics, acquire self – rescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts. Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion.

You can become a lifeguard by taking Lifesaving Society courses offered at the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre.
How to become a lifeguard
You must take these courses in order to earn a lifeguard certificate.
- Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid - minimum 13 years of age or Bronze Star
- Bronze Cross - with Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid
- National Lifeguard Service (NL) - minimum 16 years of age, Bronze Cross and standard first aid

On your way to being a lifeguard! Learn self-rescue and basic techniques in the rescue of others while developing stroke efficiency and endurance. This is an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities and learning life skills to be around the water.
Prerequisites
- Minimum 13 years of age or Bronze Star certification
- Bronze Cross must complete Bronze Medallion and possess a minimum of Emergency First Aid.
Emergency first aid and standard first aid
Emergency First Aid provides basic first aid principles and emergency treatment of injuries. Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and is a required certification for National Lifeguard.
Serious fun for kids 8 years of age and older who can swim at least 25 meters and tread water for two minutes. Junior Lifeguard Club provides an action-packed challenge for kids who love the water but want more than just swimming lessons.
The National Lifeguard training award develops the practical skills, knowledge and values required by lifeguards. Strong leadership, communication, decision making and judgement skills are essential to complete the course.

Lifeguards are legally required to recertify their qualifications every two years. Award holders will retake the practical examination and be updated on the latest developments in training techniques.

Interactive watersports such as innertube water polo, underwater hockey, relays, and fitness training. Participants need to have completed Swimmer 4. For ages 8 to 11 years.
