Swim Instructor Programs
You can become a swim instructor by taking course at the City of Kenora's aquatic facility in the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre. This program gives you the skills to lead others in learning the skills they need to be strong swimmers.
How to become a swim instructor
You must take these courses in order to earn a lifeguard certificate.
1. Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid - minimum 13 years of age or Bronze Star
2. Bronze Cross - with Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid
3. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and Lifesaving Instructor - minimum 15 years of age and Swim Kids level 10

Instructor programs
Red Cross water safety instructor course
If you enjoy teaching people of all ages, this course is right for you! You will be learn to teach all levels of Red Cross swim program. You will also learn instructor techniques, skills and planning. You must be 15 years of age and be able to swim at the Red Cross level 10.
Lifesaving Society instructor course
This course prepares you to teach the following Lifesaving Society courses:
- Canadian Swim Patrol program
- Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross
- Lifesaving Fitness
- Basic emergency first aid and CPR – A, CPR – B, CPR – C
You must be 16 years of age by the end of the course and completed bronze cross.
