Celebrate the Grand Opening of the Keewatin Branch Library

The City is excited to announce that the Keewatin Branch Library is now open to the public. A Grand Opening, in partnership with Kenora Public Library Board and New Horizons Senior Centre, will take place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 3 p.m.

The Grand Opening will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks from Hon. Greg Rickford and Mayor Andrew Poirier. Joining will be other City Council members and representatives from the Kenora Public Library Board and Keewatin Senior Centre, all coming together to mark this milestone for the community. Attendees can also enjoy complimentary tea, coffee and dainties.

Crystal Alcock, CEO and Head Librarian, expresses her excitement, “We are thrilled that the Keewatin Branch Library is back open to the public. Thank you to the community for their patience and for using the Kenora Public Library, our digital resources, and book delivery services while renovations were underway.”

The improvements completed at the Keewatin Branch Library included a roof replacement and new windows, strengthening the building for years to come. The City gratefully acknowledges the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) for contributing up to $375,000 to the Keewatin Branch Library project. City Council initially approved $500,000 from City reserves to fund the renovations, and the City’s administration has since been successful in their application to the Province of Ontario to secure this NOHFC funding.

“The Keewatin Branch Library has always been a welcoming hub for neighbours, seniors, students, and families. With these recent upgrades, we are excited to see the space open again and offering community and senior programming that supports lifelong learning and literacy,” shares Mayor Poirier. “This renovation goes beyond upgrades. It strengthens a shared space where our community can grow, learn, and connect.”

We look forward to gathering with the community on January 21 to celebrate this new chapter for the Keewatin Branch Library.
