Fire Ban in Effect
No Outside Burning Until Further Notice
Please be advised that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has announced a Restricted Fire Zone is in effect as of Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 12:01 a.m. local time for the Northwest region.
In collaboration with this announcement, City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Services has issued a City-Wide fire ban for the City of Kenora.
All outside burning is prohibited, including brush and grass burning or backyard fire pits. Gas or fuel stoves, charcoal, and wood burning stoves or furnaces are permitted with extreme caution and only under specific conditions.
All burning permits are cancelled until further notice.
The City of Kenora fire ban will remain in effect until the Restricted Fire Zone is lifted by MNRF.
Please be advised that an upgrade project on Railway Street will begin on Monday, August 24, and continue until the end of September. To facilitate the construction work, the road will be closed between 1629 Railway Street and 1736 Railway Street. A detour will be in place via Ninth Street North, Sixteenth Avenue North, and Airport Road.
Please be advised that Matheson Street South from the corner of Matheson Street South for approximately 50 meters east on First Avenue South will be closed to all traffic on Friday, August 21, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Please be advised that a portion of First Street South from Seventh Avenue South to Eight Avenue South will be closed to all traffic from Tuesday, August 25, at 9:00 a.m. to Sunday, August 30, at 4:00 p.m., to accommodate the set-up and operation of the Kenora Agricultural Fair and Midway.
Please be advised that Trans Canada Highway 17 East is at Jones Road and Matheson Bay Road has been reopened. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during today's closure.
Please be advised that Trans Canada Highway 17 East is currently closed at Jones Road and Matheson Bay Road due to a motor vehicle collision. Motorists are being detoured via Jones Road.
Please be advised that traffic will be reduced to one lane on Essex Road to Beauty Bay Road for surface treatment beginning on Friday, July 31 at 9:00 a.m.
Portage Bay Bridge will not reopen at the end of July. While planned repair work has been completed, stress monitoring equipment installed on the bridge has shown that portions of bridge’s original steel are not behaving as predicted. For public safety, the bridge will remain closed. Please continue to follow detour signs, barriers, and use alternative routes. The City is committed to the safe reopening of the Portage Bay bridge and the City is actively working towards a solution.
Overnight construction will occur at the Parsons Street and Lakeview Drive intersection starting July 27 and is expected to continue until the end of August. Overnight work from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. will see traffic reduced to one lane, controlled by flagging. Please drive cautiously, obey posted signage, and follow all traffic control measures.
Matheson Street South, from the corner of Matheson Street South for approximately 50 meters east on First Avenue South, will be closed to all traffic on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The closure is necessary to allow a crane to install second-floor materials at the 309 Matheson Street South construction site.
A watermain tie in will occur on Brinkman Road on Monday, July 13. Motorists are advised to follow detours along Ninth Avenue North and Seventh Street North to avoid the work area. The project is expected to be completed by Friday, July 17.
