Come Together Kenora for HGTV’s Home Town Takeover Canada

The City is excited to provide an update on its application to be the host community for the first season of Home Town Takeover Canada. This upcoming season will film in 2026 and include a transformation period where HGTV designers and builders renovate homes, businesses, and public spaces in a chosen community of under 20,000 people.

In November, the City’s initial application submission included a pitch video which tells HGTV why Kenora should be chosen for the show’s Canadian launch. Watch Kenora’s original nomination video

As a part of the casting process, we invite the community to participate in an additional short, family-friendly video shoot on Saturday, December 20 at 11 a.m. at the Main Street Christmas Tree. Your participation will help demonstrate Kenora’s heart and energy! Upriver Media will be on site to capture Kenora’s community spirit as we rally with a resounding, “Home Town Takeover, Come to Kenora!”.  Watch our community invite video and share it with your friends, families, and colleagues.

Filming begins at 11 a.m. and will take less than an hour. A road closure will set the stage as our community comes together for this electrifying moment, turning Kenora’s Main Street into a shared celebration of our hometown spirit.

Get ready for a fast, high-energy video shoot packed with cheers. Join the fun for a chance to:

  • Win one $500 gift card, redeemable at a local business of your choice.
  • Receive one of 150 children’s admission passes to the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Snap a family photo with Santa in front of the Main Street Christmas Tree.

This is a moment you’ll want to be part of. Bring all your friends and family to fill the street and to showcase Kenora’s vibrant community spirit to HGTV and the world. See you at the Main Street Christmas Tree on Saturday, December 20!
