Keewatin Channel Bridge Weight Restriction

The Keewatin Channel Bridge currently has a vehicle weight limit due to scaffolding adjustments.

Vehicles weighing up to 8,500 pounds, including passengers and cargo, may continue to use the bridge via the signalled alternating traffic in the Eastbound lane.

All commercial vehicles weighing over 8,500 pounds must use the Highway 17A Bypass. 

Emergency vehicles and buses are permitted to cross the bridge with the flow of regular passenger traffic, although no more than one emergency vehicle or bus may be on the bridge at the same time.

Dedicated Policing Patrols for the Holiday Season

The Kenora OPP will have a dedicated holiday patrol in the Harbourtown Centre for the month of December between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

In keeping with Priority Area Number Three: Downtown and Community Spaces in Kenora’s Community Safety & Well Being Plan, Council requested the Kenora OPP focus on downtown patrols for the festive month of December in the Harbourtown Centre. The Kenora OPP are committed to public safety and community policing. Officers are currently doing foot patrols all hours of the day and are meeting with the public and business owners. As we are in the full holiday season, we recognize that pedestrian traffic is increasing, and officers will be on foot patrol more regularly between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Council is committed to Kenora’s Community Safety & Well Being Plan which is rooted in sustainable, community driven crime reduction collaboration and shared responsibility that will improve safety and community confidence. Regular foot patrols are part of this increased public comfort and the Kenora OPP has been increasing their foot patrols day and night throughout the month of December in our community.

“Targeted initiatives such as community foot patrol efforts aim to reduce crime, enhance public safety, and restore a vibrant downtown for businesses, residents, and visitors alike and we are pleased our Kenora OPP members are increasing their presence throughout our community. During these patrols officers will engage with businesses owners/employees and members of the public and in doing so will be a proactive presence creating a positive experience for individuals visiting the targeted locations”, states Mayor Andrew Poirier.

Council would like to thank the Kenora OPP members for their commitment to these patrols and the comfort it brings to members of the community, especially during the holiday season.
