Exciting Upgrades Coming to Lakeview Drive Intersection

The City is excited to announce upcoming upgrades to the Lakeview Drive intersection at Minnesota Street and Parson Street in 2026. The new intersection improvement plan aims to enhance safety and accessibility for all users, whether you are walking, biking, or driving. 

In 2026, the intersection will be upgraded, and Lakeview Drive will be resurfaced and repaved. Additional features such as flashing green lights and other long-term initiatives will also be included to enhance safety and improve traffic flow. 

Thanks to a successful grant application to Ministry of Infrastructure’s Housing Enabling Core Services Stream, the City is moving forward with detailed design in 2025 and construction in 2026. 

Highlights of the project include:

• Protected signalized left-turn lanes with flashing green arrows for safer and smoother turns
• AODA-compliant active transportation features to better serve all members of our community

The City started developing this concept in Fall 2024 in response to safety concerns, particularly the hazards caused by vehicles using the former bus stop lane to bypass left turns. To improve safety immediately, temporary Jersey barriers were installed in June. These barriers are essential for now but will be removed once the scheduled capital upgrades are completed in 2026.

The Director of Engineering and Infrastructure, Greg Breen, shares, “Community safety is our top priority, and we’re excited about this project. Since signal light upgrades are a major investment, we’re coordinating the construction of the turning lanes at the same time.
