Keewatin Channel Bridge Weight Restriction

The Keewatin Channel Bridge currently has a vehicle weight limit due to scaffolding adjustments.

Load restrictions remain in place at 8,500 pounds (3,855 kilograms) per vehicle. Commercial vehicles over this limit must use the Highway 17A Bypass.

Emergency vehicles and buses are permitted to cross the bridge with the flow of regular passenger traffic, although no more than one emergency or bus may be on the bridge at the same time. When multiple are crossing, these vehicles are to cross only after the preceding vehicle has passed the high mid-point of the bridge.

Keewatin Garbage and Recycle Curbside Collection

Please be advised that curbside collection to the following four streets was not completed today, Thursday, January 29, 2026:

  • Twelfth Street
  • Erie Street
  • Portage Street
  • May Avenue

These locations will be collected tomorrow, Friday, January 30. Please place all garbage and recycling at the curb by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow to ensure pickup.

Residents are reminded that garbage bags must have a City of Kenora bag tag attached. For recycle, use your new 360-litre recycling cart and place the cart so that the wheels face towards your home and the lid opens toward the street. Ensure the cart is at least 3 feet (1 metre) in front of or beside fences, vehicles, or other obstacles. Place your cart on a flat surface that is clear of snow and ice.
