City Invites Community to Celebrate Completion of Central Park Greenspace and Improvements
The City invites residents and their families to a community celebration marking the completion of the Central Park Greenspace project. The event will take place at Central Park on Monday, November 9, at 4:00 p.m., with the official ribbon-cutting ceremony being held along the park's new accessible pathway.
The Central Park Greenspace project has transformed one of Kenora's neighbourhood parks into a more welcoming, accessible, and connected gathering space. Enhancements include a new paved parking and pathway, landscaping, pathway lighting, stormwater management upgrades throughout the park, and underground infrastructure improvements along First Street South. The playground has also been upgraded with additional amenities, including a sunshade and slackline, providing even more opportunities for children and families to stay active and enjoy outdoor recreation.
These improvements were made possible through funding support from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).
“These upgrades reflect the importance of investing in the community spaces where residents gather, play, and connect,” shares Mayor Andrew Poirier. “Thanks to the support of the Province of Ontario, we've been able to strengthen this valued community hub, improving accessibility and recreation opportunities while creating a space for residents of all ages to enjoy.”
The celebration will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks from the Hon. Greg Rickford and Mayor Andrew Poirier. Members of City Council, representatives from the Central Community Club Board, project partners, and community members will come together to mark the completion of the project and celebrate the continued investment in one of Kenora's valued neighbourhood spaces.
Following the outdoor ceremony, residents are encouraged to explore the park, experience the new accessible pathway, and enjoy the upgraded amenities. Attendees can stop inside the Central Community Club for complimentary coffee and hot chocolate, provided by the Central Community Club Board.
The City looks forward to welcoming residents on November 9 to celebrate this community milestone and experience the park's completed improvements firsthand.
