City Welcomes Summer with a Bold New 3D KENORA Sign

Summer weather has settled in, and there’s no better moment to celebrate the vibrant energy and the natural beauty of Kenora. To mark the season, the City has installed a new permanent attraction on Kenora’s iconic harbourfront: a bright, 3D KENORA sign located at Husky the Muskie. The new 3D sign welcomes residents and visitors alike, highlighting Kenora’s vibrancy while inviting everyone to snap and explore our beloved harbourfront.

“Many top destinations feature prominent city-name landmarks for photo opportunities. Our sign, perched near Husky the Muskie and the Goodwill Geyser lookout, offers breathtaking views of Cameron Narrows and the Jarnel Contracting Pavilion,” states Stace Gander, Chief Administrative Officer. “We anticipate that the sign will be highly visible in travel and tourist photos and will help potential tourists become aware of Kenora as a premier tourism destination because of our breathtaking natural beauty situated along Lake of the Woods.”

The new KENORA sign is part of the McLeod Park rejuvenation project. Other improvements to McLeod Park include new deck structure surrounding the James McMillan tugboat, refreshed landscaping, and a new fully accessible ramp connecting to the underpass to Husky the Muskie. These upgrades are estimated to be completed in Fall 2026.

The McLeod Park project is funded in part by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) and the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT).

Municipal Accommodation Tax

The City’s contribution to this project is funded by the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT), collected on short-term accommodations within Kenora. The MAT funds support tourism initiatives and economic development efforts across the community, helping to promote local businesses and enhance visitor experiences without impacting municipal taxes.
