Community Invited to Celebrate Grand Opening of the Coney Island – Kenora Rotary Club Playground
The City of Kenora, in partnership with the Kenora Rotary Club, invites residents and visitors to celebrate the official Grand Opening of the Coney Island – Kenora Rotary Club Playground on Tuesday, August 4 at 2:30 p.m.
The new Coney Island - Kenora Rotary Club Playground transforms Kenora’s beloved waterfront destination into a more inclusive place where children and families of all abilities can play, connect, and explore together. Featuring inclusive play equipment, accessible surfacing and pathways, sensory-rich elements, and quiet spaces, the playground has been thoughtfully designed to welcome children of diverse abilities and needs.
The Grand Opening celebration will feature a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks from Hon. Greg Rickford and Mayor Andrew Poirier. Members of City Council, representatives from the Kenora Rotary Club, the Accessibility Advisory Committee, project partners, and community members will join together to celebrate the opening of this exciting new inclusive playground and gathering place for families.
“This playground demonstrates what can be achieved when a community comes together around a shared vision of inclusion and accessibility,” says Mayor Andrew Poirier. “The Coney Island – Kenora Rotary Club Playground has been thoughtfully designed so children of all abilities can enjoy meaningful play experiences together. We are proud to celebrate the completion of a project that will serve local families and visitors for many years to come.”
This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada's Enabling Accessibility Fund, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), and the Kenora Rotary Club.
“The City and the Rotary Club of Kenora have a long and proud history of working together to enhance our community. Through this strong partnership we have created parks, public spaces, and community projects that improve the quality of life for all residents and visitors alike,” shares Deb LeMaistre, Special Projects Chair at the Rotary Club of Kenora. “This beautiful new inclusive playground is a place where families can gather, enjoy, and create lasting memories.”
The City welcomes residents, visitors, families, and community partners to join in celebrating this exciting addition to Kenora's waterfront and the continued advancement of accessible and inclusive recreation for all.
Community members are invited to spend the afternoon on Coney Island, enjoying the beach, picnic areas and the new inclusive playground following the ceremony. As a special thank you for attending, guests will receive a coupon for a free small ice cream cone, redeemable at the Coney Island Snack Shack.
