The City is excited to host an upcoming virtual information workshop, So You Want to Run for Council, aimed at potential candidates interested in running for municipal council. The free workshop, featuring guest speaker Nigel Bellchamber, will provide valuable insights into the realities of serving on council.
Workshop details
- Date: Choose between Monday, June 1 or Monday, June 15
- Time: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
- Format: Virtual attendance
This workshop is designed for anyone interested in local government, including potential candidates and their spouses or partners.
Workshop topics include roles and responsibilities of council members and municipal staff, the public’s role in local governance, understanding the difference between governance and administration, and much more.

About Nigel Bellchamber
Mr. Bellchamber has worked with municipal Ontario for most of his career, as a senior manager, advisor and as a trainer for both elected and appointed officials. Since 2002, he has been a facilitator in hundreds of sessions for elected officials in all parts of the Province. He has taught municipal administrators at both the College and University level and has incorporated into this interactive programme's curriculum for prospective heads and members of Council the unique challenges that have been added to municipal governance for the coming term of Council.
