Responding to Flooding and Infrastructure Impacts

City of Kenora crews continue to respond across the community following yesterday’s significant storm event.

We are experiencing a high volume of calls related to flooding, sewer backups, road washouts, downed trees, and drainage concerns. Please be assured that crews are actively working throughout the community.

To help keep phone lines available and to allow staff to focus on response efforts, residents are encouraged to submit non-emergency issues through the City’s Request for Service online reporting tool. Reports are reviewed and assigned directly to the appropriate department for action.

At this time, response efforts are focused on assessing and repairing critical municipal infrastructure and addressing public safety concerns, including:

  • Blocked catch basins and culverts
  • Flooded low-lying areas
  • Flood-damaged roadways
  • Downed trees and debris removal
  • Wastewater system operations

Residents whose properties have experienced basement flooding or sewer backups are encouraged to contact their insurance provider. Your insurer can advise you on cleanup procedures, documentation requirements, and the claims process. While City crews work to restore community infrastructure, private call-outs should be directed to contractors, as available.

Motorists are advised to avoid areas with standing water and to use alternate routes whenever possible. Please drive cautiously and obey all road closure signs, barricades, and traffic control.

We thank the public for their patience as crews work to address storm impacts throughout the city. Response efforts will focus first on restoring critical infrastructure and ensuring public safety.
