The Lake of the Woods Museum Receiving Upgrades This Summer with Continued Visitor Access

The City and the Sustainability Advisory Committee are excited to announce improvements to The Muse’s Lake of the Wood Museum.

Construction is scheduled to begin this summer, with completion expected in the Fall 2026. These upgrades to the Lake of the Woods Museum demonstrate commitment to the City’s Strategic Plan to seek sustainable solutions to reduce environmental impacts of City operations. The enhancements support the Sustainability Action Plan’s priorities for showcasing renewable energy and incorporating green infrastructure.

The improvements to the Lake of the Woods Museum will include replacing the shingle roof with new metal roofing, installation of a solar power system, and replacement of eavestrough, downspouts, venting, and fascia.

Funding for these upgrades are generously provided by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC), Sustainability Advisory Committee, and the City’s Museum Reserve and Contingency Reserve.

“This roof project aligns with the broader strategic priorities of the City of Kenora, while also delivering on The Muse's commitment to sustainability,” states Braden Murray, Director.  “The Museum is for everyone. These capital upgrades will protect and help power our building, so we can welcome guests for many years."

Access to The Muse, which is both the Lake of the Woods Museum and the Douglas Family Art Centre, will remain available through the main entrances. Protective coverings will be installed along entrance paths to safeguard pedestrians during construction. Memorial Park courtyard may be periodically inaccessible to support construction activities.

We invite residents and visitors to enjoy The Muse this summer, while looking forward to upgraded facilities that will enrich the museum experience for generations to come.
