What's Open, Closed This Civic Holiday

On the Civic Holiday, Monday, August 5, the following City facilities are open:

• Thistle Pavilion, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Muse Kenora is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

All other City buildings and facilities are closed, including the Transfer Station and Recycle Depot, Kenora and Keewatin Public Libraries, City Hall, Moncrief Construction Sports Centre, and Bowman Electric Keewatin Memorial Arena. 

There is no bus service on the holiday.

Essex Road Repairs Scheduled for Fall 2024

The City’s current Capital Projects schedule includes the Essex Road Grade Raise Project, with the purpose of raising the Essex Road elevation to minimize the concerns and risks of flooding when surrounding water levels rise.

This project is an important part of our Capital Projects schedule that will be completed in two phases

1. A drilling program to assess the soil conditions under the existing road to ensure that any work to raise the road will be well supported by the subgrade;

School Road and Eagle Road Gravelling Work

Please be advised that gravelling will be carried out on School Road and Eagle Bay Road starting on Tuesday, August 6, at the locations shown in the maps below.

Work will take place for the duration of August and into early September, weather permitting. 

There may be traffic delays. Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to obey the signs and traffic controls. Use caution when heavy equipment is working.
