Road Permits

You need a permit if you are planning a project, activity, or event that requires access to City of Kenora roads or right-of-ways.

 Encroachment permit

Application process

  1. Submit the completed encroachment permit application at least five working days before the project start date.
  2. Get a certificate of insurance from your insurer. Your insurance coverage must be at least $1 million and identify the City of Kenora as an additional insured.
  3. Provide an explanation of the work, including its scope, location and time or duration.
  4. Bring your completed application form and insurance information to the Operations Building, 60 Fourteenth Street North, Kenora.
  5. Or fax in the application and insurance information to the Roads Division at 807-467-2246.

Encroachment Permit Application

Examples of activities requiring a permit

You require a permit if you want to use or access municipal roads, sidewalk or boulevards for a project or activity such as:

  • material or equipment storage
  • excavation or digs
  • using roadway for an extended period of time
  • blocking off right-of-ways

If you begin work without the permit, you may receive a work-stoppage order or penalty in fines.

Fees

  • Single lot $75.00
  • Service main or 2 or more lots $150.00

 Entrance permit

 

Complete the entrance permit application and submit to the Roads Division.

When to apply for an entrance permit

You require an entrance permit if you are planning to establish a new entrance onto a municipal roadway.

A site inspection by the Roads Division is required to ensure there are no safety hazards at the location of the entrance. The inspection also looks at:

  • entrance width
  • culvert, if required
  • size of culvert
  • material over culvert
  • sloping and ditching
  • sightlines

Fees

  • Private residential entrance $75.00 per entrance
  • Commercial property entrance $150.00 per entrance
  • Industrial property entrance $240.00 per entrance

 Parade, walk, or run permit

Apply for a parade, walk, or run permit by completing the online parade permit application.

Application processing time

2 weeks

The approval must be in place five days before the event.

  • ceremonies
  • street dances or parties
  • festivals or carnivals
  • races or walk-a-thons
  • demonstrations
  • or any similar event that requires a lane or road closure or may interfere with the normal flow of traffic on a regional road.
