Join us as we celebrate the heart and soul of Kenora’s economy and show your support for our local businesses this October for Small Business Month.

The Economic Development Department at the City, along with the Northwest Business Centre, Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre, Kenora and District Chamber of Commerce, Lake of the Woods Business Incentive Corporation, and BDC, are thrilled to host a month-long celebration in support of Kenora's small business community.

Small Business Month scavenger hunt

October 1 to October 31, 2024   

Hosted by the Northwest Business Centre

Looking for something fun to do in October? Join the Small Business Month Scavenger Hunt! Complete over 20 tasks that highlight local businesses, must-see spots, and Kenora's business history.

Prizes include:

  • $100 gift card draw for anyone who finishes.
  • $50 gift card draw for completing all business-specific tasks.
  • Three $20 gift card draws for anyone who participates. 

Winners can choose gift cards from any participating scavenger hunt business.

Business Structures and Incorporating from an Accounting Perspective – Join BDO Canada LLP. in a lunch and learn workshop where they will discuss the pros and cons to each business structure and when it might be time to consider incorporating. The workshop will also touch on taxes and how could impacted.

Location: Kenora Bed 'n' Bale: 66 Cambrian Drive, through the gate and left, to the parking lot.

Visit farm animals, take a peek inside bunkie cabins, check out the seasonal RV spots, see animal feed and bales sales area. Free marshmallows and hot chocolate at the log pergola. BYO hot dog picnic to the fire pits.

Starter Company Plus grant program

Applications accepted October 15 to October 31, 2024 

Presented by the Northwest Business Centre 

If you’re starting, expanding, or buying a small business, apply for training, mentoring and a grant through the Starter Company Plus program. You will receive one-on-one guidance and business training to complete a business plan and the opportunity to apply for a $5,000 grant.
