Fire Ban in Effect
No Outside Burning Until Further Notice
Please be advised that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has announced a Restricted Fire Zone is in effect as of Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 12:01 a.m. local time for the Northwest region.
In collaboration with this announcement, City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Services has issued a City-Wide fire ban for the City of Kenora.
All outside burning is prohibited, including brush and grass burning, backyard fire pits, or cook stoves that use solid fuels (wood or charcoal). BBQs that use propane are permitted with extreme caution.
All burning permits are cancelled until further notice.
The City of Kenora fire ban will remain in effect until the Restricted Fire Zone is lifted by MNRF.
Transfer Station is Open
The Transfer Station has reopened following the flood clean-up. All services have resumed and the facility is operating its regular hours.
On February 17, 2026, City Council approved the 2026 municipal operating budget which will see a modest 3.74% net tax levy increase. City Council and Administration approach the annual budgets with a focus on maintaining existing services while also addressing the needs of future generations.

Residential recycle blue box programs across Ontario continue to move to a collection system that is 100 percent funded and operated by producers of packaging and paper products. Starting in January, Kenora will transition to an enhanced recycling system operated by Circular Materials. Recycling will be even more convenient in Kenora with a new recycling cart and a standardized list of what can be recycled across Ontario.
Our Recreation Team is hosting an after school program in December. Kids will experience two weeks of structured activities to stay active, learn new skills, and have fun in a supportive environment. Sports Stars After School Program at Moncrief Construction Sports Centre (MCSC) is designed for all ability levels. This program is free for all participants, thanks to our sponsor Canadian Tire Jumpstart.
Tim Welch Consulting Inc. (TWC) presented Council with the findings of the comprehensive Housing Needs Study at the November 20, 2025, Committee of the Whole meeting. The Summative Report provides a high level summary of the reports findings and includes a precise, local view of Kenora’s housing supply, affordability, and future needs.
