Fire Ban in Effect
No Outside Burning Until Further Notice
Please be advised that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has announced a Restricted Fire Zone is in effect as of Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 12:01 a.m. local time for the Northwest region.
In collaboration with this announcement, City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Services has issued a City-Wide fire ban for the City of Kenora.
All outside burning is prohibited, including brush and grass burning, backyard fire pits, or cook stoves that use solid fuels (wood or charcoal). BBQs that use propane are permitted with extreme caution.
All burning permits are cancelled until further notice.
The City of Kenora fire ban will remain in effect until the Restricted Fire Zone is lifted by MNRF.
Transfer Station is Open
The Transfer Station has reopened following the flood clean-up. All services have resumed and the facility is operating its regular hours.
Please be advised that Norman Park beach will be temporarily closed on Tuesday, September 2, and Wednesday, September 3, to allow for the removal of Hoopla Island.
The City is pleased to share updates about the two improvement projects and upcoming road openings on Ninth Street North. On the evening of Tuesday, September 2, Ninth Street North will open to all traffic and pedestrians. Project paving is currently underway and we are so excited to see this project completed on schedule.
The City of Kenora is excited to support local businesses, sports teams, arts programs, and community groups by hosting a free Mass Registration Community Fair on Tuesday, September 9, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre.
The City issues a public statement to clarify criticisms being received surrounding the Ukrainian flag raising at City Hall on Thursday, August 21, 2025. City Council and Administration recognizes the significance of Ukraine Independence Day. Event organizers requested flag raising to occur on a date and time that coincided with a pre-scheduled staff appreciation event. City made accommodations and the flag raising commenced after the staff appreciation event.
The City of Kenora and Kenora Rowing Club invite the community to join them in commemorating Olympic Silver Medalist, Abby Dent, at a special community event scheduled for Tuesday, August 27 at the Kenora Rowing Club, located at 110 Birchwood Crescent in Garrow Park.
The City of Kenora Committee of Adjustment (COA) will hold a regular meeting on September 17, at 6 p.m.
As part of the meeting, the Committee will consider a proposed Minor Variance under Section 45 of the Planning Act (RSO 1990), for File: D13-25-13, Location: 14 Agate Bay.
The City of Kenora is excited to announce the second intake for the Special Events Grant program is open. Interested organizers are encouraged to apply for funding support of up to $5,000 for events that will take place between October 1, 2025 and April 30, 2026.
The Moncrief Construction Sports Centre lobby renovation project is at a key stage that will affect facility entry starting at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, and continue until project completion. Learn more and view the site map for alternative parking and entrances.
Please be advised that water levels on Rabbit Lake are lower than normal. This is due to repair work that is required to the water level control mechanism. This situation is being monitored, and the City is in the process of developing a plan for repairs. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
Mayor Andrew Poirier and Councillor Lindsay Koch, along with Co-Chief Administrative Officers, Stace Gander and Heather Pihulak, will join more than 2,500 participants at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario's (AMO) 2025 AMO Conference in Ottawa from August 17 to 20.
