Fire Ban in Effect
No Outside Burning Until Further Notice
Please be advised that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has announced a Restricted Fire Zone is in effect as of Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 12:01 a.m. local time for the Northwest region.
In collaboration with this announcement, City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Services has issued a City-Wide fire ban for the City of Kenora.
All outside burning is prohibited, including brush and grass burning, backyard fire pits, or cook stoves that use solid fuels (wood or charcoal). BBQs that use propane are permitted with extreme caution.
All burning permits are cancelled until further notice.
The City of Kenora fire ban will remain in effect until the Restricted Fire Zone is lifted by MNRF.
Transfer Station is Open
The Transfer Station has reopened following the flood clean-up. All services have resumed and the facility is operating its regular hours.
Effective January 1, 2026, City of Kenora water and wastewater user rates will increase by 8.8% (depending on meter size), for all customers in 2026. An average household that consumes 11.5 cubic meters of water can expect an increase of $13.58 per month in 2026, depending on usage.
Please be advised that effective January 1, 2026, Transfer Station fees will increase by 2.5% overall and the cost of a bag tag will increase by $0.15 to $2.75 per bag.
Please be advised that beginning Monday, January 5, 2026, the Westbound lane of the Keewatin Channel Bridge will close to allow the Bridge Repair and Recoating Project to continue. Load restrictions remain in place at 8,500 pounds (3,855 kilograms) per vehicle. Commercial vehicles over this limit must use the Highway 17A Bypass.
The City of Kenora is declaring the end of the Significant Weather Event.
Please be advised that starting Tuesday, December 23, 2025, to Sunday, January 4, 2026, the Westbound lane of the Keewatin Channel Bridge will reopen for holiday travel.
Please be advised that City crews are currently working to collect garbage and recyclables on the Friday Route; however, collection is running slower than usual due to the winter storm event.
Please be advised that the City of Kenora is declaring a Significant Weather Event related to Snow Accumulation in line with Section 4.1 of ONTARIO REGULATION 239/02 Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.
Please be advised that curbside collection for Tunnel Island, Norman, and Keewatin is temporarily suspended today, Thursday, December 19, due to weather conditions.
The City of Kenora, in collaboration with the Northwestern Health Unit, Kenora Makwa Patrol, the All-Nations Health Partners-Ontario Health Team, Lake of the Woods District Hospital - Mental Health and Addictions Program, and Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe’iyewigamig (WNHAC), is excited to announce the launch of a Needle Disposal Pilot Project for 2026.
