Fire Ban in Effect
No Outside Burning Until Further Notice
Please be advised that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has announced a Restricted Fire Zone is in effect as of Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 12:01 a.m. local time for the Northwest region.
In collaboration with this announcement, City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Services has issued a City-Wide fire ban for the City of Kenora.
All outside burning is prohibited, including brush and grass burning, backyard fire pits, or cook stoves that use solid fuels (wood or charcoal). BBQs that use propane are permitted with extreme caution.
All burning permits are cancelled until further notice.
The City of Kenora fire ban will remain in effect until the Restricted Fire Zone is lifted by MNRF.
Transfer Station is Open
The Transfer Station has reopened following the flood clean-up. All services have resumed and the facility is operating its regular hours.
Registration for City of Kenora Women’s Slo-Pitch League is now open. We are recruiting returning teams, as well as new teams for the 2026 season.
Please be advised of an upcoming change to credit card payments effective May 1, 2026. A 2% processing fee will be applied to payments made by credit card.
Please be advised that a storm system upgrade project will begin on Tuesday, April 28, on First Street South between Seventh Avenue South and Eighth Avenue South. During this project, this section of First Street South will be closed.
This notice is for anyone proposing to be a candidate in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections to be held: Monday, October 26, 2026.
Please be advised that the existing closure related to the Portage Bay Bridge project is being adjusted. Effective Thursday, April 23, a section of Wharf Street at Tenth Street will be closed to all traffic to accommodate project operations
Please be advised that the access road between Anicinabe Park and Old Chalet Lane will be closed from Friday, May 1, 2026 until the Park closes in the fall.
The City of Kenora Women’s Slo-Pitch League 2026 is looking to bring on new umpires to support the league throughout the upcoming season.
City of Kenora is moving to stage 4 of the expropriation process, Certificate of Approval. The City has received the report from the Ontario Land Tribunal, who oversaw the Hearing of Necessity. In the coming weeks, Council will determine if it wishes to proceed with the expropriation.
The City is ready to spring into action this summer with the return of the Communities in Bloom program. Judges will travel across Canada, ranking hundreds of participating communities. In July, the judges will spend a day and a half in Kenora, guided by locals who highlight what makes our city special. Learn more about how you can get involved.
Coker Road from Kelly Road to the east side of Rice Bay will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, April 16, due to the increasing water Level on Black Sturgeon Lake, specifically Rice Bay. The closure affects all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Following the closure, the Rice Bay water level will be monitored. When the level reduces, the road will be inspected for safe re-opening. The City will re-open the Coker Road only when it is safe to do so.
