Fire Ban in Effect
No Outside Burning Until Further Notice
Please be advised that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has announced a Restricted Fire Zone is in effect as of Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 12:01 a.m. local time for the Northwest region.
In collaboration with this announcement, City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Services has issued a City-Wide fire ban for the City of Kenora.
All outside burning is prohibited, including brush and grass burning, backyard fire pits, or cook stoves that use solid fuels (wood or charcoal). BBQs that use propane are permitted with extreme caution.
All burning permits are cancelled until further notice.
The City of Kenora fire ban will remain in effect until the Restricted Fire Zone is lifted by MNRF.
Transfer Station is Open
The Transfer Station has reopened following the flood clean-up. All services have resumed and the facility is operating its regular hours.
The City of Kenora is excited to announce the appointment of Jon Taylor as the new Chief Building Official. Jon brings a wealth of experience as a carpenter and building inspector, having previously held the roles of Deputy Chief Building Official and Chief Building Official throughout Southern Ontario. Although most of his career has been spent in Southern Ontario, Kenora feels like home to him, reminding him of his roots in New Brunswick.
The City is thrilled to announce that upgrades to the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre are set to enhance our community’s recreational experiences. Beginning in early May 2025, we will be replacing the concrete slab in the Thistle Arena to provide a more solid and stable ice surface.
On March 18, 2025, Council officially approved the anticipated Community Safety and Well-Being Plan. This 10-year Plan is the result of a collaborative process, where the voices of our diverse community have come together to shape a framework for action and change.
On March 18, 2025, City Council approved the 2025 Municipal Operating Budget, focusing on strengthening core municipal services. The 2025 Capital, Solid Waste, and Water and Wastewater Utility Budgets were approved on November 19, 2024.
The City’s Sustainability Advisory Committee is thrilled to announce plans for an outdoor food waste diversion solution for residents in Kenora.
The City of Kenora is currently in collective bargaining with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 191, which represents 140 frontline workers. The union will be in a legal strike position and the City in a legal lockout position at 12:01 a.m., or one minute past midnight, on Saturday, March 8.
City of Kenora water services customers can now view the 2024 Kenora Drinking Water System Annual Report.
This City is pleased to announce that a significant provincial investment of $5,961,588 in City infrastructure, was confirmed in January. The City was able to secure this funding through an application to the Housing-Enabling Core Servicing Stream, under the Province of Ontario’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.
The City is undertaking Official Plan, Zoning By-law, and Community Improvement Plan Reviews. The Official Plan and Zoning By-law Review will result in a new Official Plan and Zoning By-law for the City.
The Kenora Age-Friendly Committee, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kenora, RTOERO District 26, and the City of Kenora, is thrilled to invite you to a Volunteer Fair on February 19, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre in the Multipurpose Room.
